This will be one of my last blogs for awhile. This blog was part of my social media class. I was required to write a weekly blog on a topic of my choice, since the class is ending I will be taking a short break, however I will continue to write any and every thing I can about tattoos, just after a short break.
As part of my last blog I wanted to write about my own personal Inksane tattoo experience. Growing up I have always had a fondness towards art in any form. It was a way of releasing all of my emotions without having to talk about them. Growing up I didn't really like the idea of tattoos and/or piercings, but if you looked at me today, you wouldn't believe me. I have been painting my body canvas with art and piercings since I was 17 and have been addicted since. When I realized that I could get my own art tattooed on my body, it really made me happy. All of my tattoos were well thought out and have tremendous amounts of meaning behind them. My body art tells a beautiful story of unspoken words that describes my personality. A lot of people, including members of my family, have repeatedly told me that I should have never started, and not to get anymore.
Over the past few years, I have a difficult time trying to find myself and myself purpose. It isn't an easy task, and for a long time, my life wasn't going anywhere forward, it was as if my life was at a whirling stopping point. My sophomore year I was given the chance to travel to my homeland, South Korea. It was the longest 23 hours of my life, but the experience was life changing. When I returned to the States, I wanted to represent my time spent there, and I could not think of a better way then to get a tattoo of the flag. I already had the word "beautiful" written in Hangul so I thought it would go together well, Because of that tattoo, I have decided to represent every country I travel in some way with a tattoo. Yesterday I did some shopping around downtown Raleigh to get a feather tattoo to represent my first country, Belize. The feather would symbolize my life journey to free my spirit and to follow my dreams, which are to travel the world as much as life will allow me. I went to the shops I have been to and given reviews on and each parlor wanted to charge a hell of a lot..so I only got two of my tattoos touched up rather than spending a ton on a simple design.
I hope y'all understand what tattoos can mean to a person before you gaze your eyes upon someone with judgement. Having beliefs and opinions does not make a person any better or worse than you. The weird thing is, I have had most of my visible tattoos for a number of years now, and I can count on one hand, the number of times people have asked me why I got my tattoo. Rather then sitting down and having a conversation with me, they would prefer to make up their preconceived notions about me based on my exterior appearance.
Leaving on a positive note, below are a picture of all of my tattoos, and if you see me, feel free to ask the story behind the art, because that's all tattoos are. A way of representation of importance of a time in their life

To Ink or Not to Ink..
In the tattooing world, you'll find about a hundred different opinions for, well, pretty much everything, but the tattoo experience can be almost universal. Most will tell you that yes, it does hurt, but will also be followed by a variety of explanations and descriptions on the tattoo machine feels against your skin. Getting tattooed is a unique experience for everyone, so how it feels and how it hurts is different to everyone and their pain tolerance. In preparation your body should be as natural as possible. Your skin should be not be shaved, be free of lotions, glitter, and any other healing wounds.
Because tattoos are a mark meant to be permanent a lot of people have regrets. The reasons behind removing tattoos are varied, but often times have to do with tattoo locations. If it is visible it can a be a distraction to those you work with, and may hold you back from getting a promotion. With today's technology there are a variety of tattoo removal.
-Laser Tattoo Removal
-Dermabrasion and Excision
-Variot Tattoo Removal
-Trichloroacetic Acid
-Tattoo Removal Creams
Laser Removal is the most popular methods of tattoo removal. It is a series of treatments for each tattoo removal depending on the size, color and age of tattoo being removed. Different lasers are needed for different colors in a tattoo. Most laser removals costs at least $400 a session, and again like I said, most tattoos need more than one session.
Cost: $$$$$
Pain: Severe without anesthesia
Effectiveness: 95%
Dermabrasion and Excision involves sanding the top layers of with an abrasive while excision involves surgically removing-cutting out-the tattoo from the body.
Cost: $$$$
Pain: Minimal with local anesthesia
Effectiveness: 95%
Variot removal has been around for a century and uses a tattoo machine and acid to remove the tattoo. It isn't a popular way of treating a removal, it will be hard for you find someone who will use this method. Though some tattoo artist still condone in this treatment and will do so.
Cost: $$$
Pain: Mild with topical numbing creams
Effectiveness: 90%
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA). It seems almost insane to use an acid on our skin to remove anything. Although thousands of men and women use acid on their skin to remove fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. TCA is a water-based liquid and is applied to the skin with a cotton swab. Putting acid on our skin makes a small burn on the spot and our skin naturally heals itself by growing new skin on the damaged skin.
Cost: $
Pain: Mild for most, Moderate for some
Effectiveness: 85%
Tattoo Removal Creams. The ingredients in the creams uses the same active ingredient as skin bleaches. In August of 2006, the FDA ban over the counter creams with the active ingredient. This ingredient has been known for causing a skin cancer in various countries.
Cost: $$$
Pain: Excluding Cancer and Ochronosis, none
Effectiveness: No reported studies to claims
It seems to me that tattoo removal is costly as far as money and pain goes. I do not recommend anyone to get a removal of a tattoo unless you are put up against a wall with no other choice. I have went around my campus asking a few people if they had any tattoos, if so, I asked if I could take a picture to post on my blog. Most of whom I questioned, their parents condoned in the tattoo, one of my friends mother took her when she was sixteen to get her first tattoo as her birthday present.
I say this in every blog I write, so y'all should know that I obviously mean it, I love tattoos. I think they are beautiful and just because in your eyes you don't agree 100 percent doesn't mean people shouldn't get them. Just don't get them removed, or you'll be in more pain and have more money spent on the tattoo than you planned.

Think before you Ink
Tattoos are becoming more popular as the years pass. It use to be mainly rock stars and extremely outgoing people and now it seems almost everyone has at least a tattoo somewhere. It is very common to see a tattoo on someone nowadays versus 20 or 30 years ago. Tattoos have become more of a fashion statement rather than something seen as repulsive.
Tattoos are becoming so popular so fast that people will almost get anything. A very unusual but getting more popular to get are Lip tattoos. Most of which are on the inner bottom lip, some are the inner top lip. These tattoos don't tend to be permanent unless you get them touched up several times. The reason for this is that the location of the tattoo remains moist constantly and the ink won't be able to set into the skin. Lip tattoos are just like any other type of tattoos, treated the same, inked the same and the healing process is the same.
Another unusual tattoo location is getting a tattoo on your teeth. I know it sounds very strange, but it is getting popular. More than I think should. I have no idea why someone would ever want one on their tooth but then again some people say the same for other locations. I guess it all depends on the person.I suppose it is also clever so it's not publicly visible and you can brag to your friends saying "Dude, I just got a tattoo on my tooth" and of course your instantly cool cause you think you're clever. Kudos to you. In my opinion if you're going to spend money on a tattoo, get one in a location a little more valuable.
Also as plain as it is, hand and finger tattoos are getting more popular. I know it doesn't sound like much. but that is intense. It is constantly seen, people are judging always, and you yourself have to see it almost every second. People are getting them on the sides of their finger as well as on the top. I have seen everything from letters to light sabers on fingers. Very creative if you ask me.
Armpits, cleavage, ear lobe, inner ear, genital region and head tattoos are all very crazy and are in very sensitive areas that I would not recommend anyone getting. I have no idea why someone would want to cover up their private area. What do you think someone is thinking when they first see a tattoo down there? I personally do not want to see a guy with one there, I would most likely laugh and then just walk away. As for armpits, you are insane if you get inked there. It is sensitive and it is just plain weird. I'm sorry, it is not a smart move. Just do not do it. Head tattoos are only cool if you are bald, or it isn't really worth it unless you shave constantly. There have been hair tattoos, which is for bald people wanting to get a tattoo covering their scalp mimicking hair. I actually think that is a clever idea, only if it looks real.
Regardless I think everyone should always think before you ink. Maybe draw the tattoo you are wanting where you are wanting to get it. And maybe also think of your loved one, and if they got whatever it is that you are wanting for yourself on them, how would you feel? If you don't mind then go ahead and get it, just don't do the genitals. That's just plain weird.

Ink Nerd
Tattooing is a way of body modification, made my inserting ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. Tattooing has been practiced for several centuries in a lot of different cultures all around the world. Like I stated in my previous blog, it has been more common for men to get tattoos rather then woman, in today's generation it very common for both sexes and all ages to get tatted up all over your body. It is becoming more acceptable for anyone and everyone.
If it were up to me, I would take everyone to a tattoo parlor to get at least one tattoo. I feel that now in time, everyone should follow this trend, and get a tattoo, weather it is something small or a larger piece. I think people should be even more accepting rather then ridiculing those who have been inked. Instead of glaring your eyes and judging those who are completely tatted, ask them what there tattoos mean and why they got them. People love to explain their stories and share a piece of themselves with the world. They obviously thought a lot about what they wanted before they were permanently marked. Each tattoo represents a time in that persons life that meant something. It is a mark that reminding you of that beautiful moment in history.
I commend those who are tatted and those who will get a tattoo. It is a very courageous experience. When I look at someone who has visible tattoos, I don't look at them with disgrace, but with a fondness and a love for that person. I see tattoos as a work of art, which is should be looked at in that way. Tattoos are so alluring, and breathe taking, in either black and white or in vivid color.
I have both black and white and color tattoos. I personally prefer black and white, for the simple fact of the classic look and the more detail in the art piece. Though I'd rather look at those who have colored tattoos mixed with black and white tattoos.

Oak City
My most recent tattoo parlor visit was to Oak City tattoo & piercing, located at 3114 Hillsborough Street. The convenience of the place is great for the NC State and Meredith students. It isn't a very big parlor, but it is very clean and seems to be legit. When I first saw this place, I wasn't too thrilled of going inside and watching my friend get here tattoo from there. It seemed too small, and I just got a weird vibe.
When I walked it was super clean, very bright and vibrant and I thought to myself, "maybe this isn't such a bad place." As we were waiting I walked around, looking at everything they had to offer.
Soon, my friend was called to get her tattoo done. She had some words in calligraphy written on both sides of her collarbone. A very hard spot to for a tattoo placement, because it is on the bone, and it is also hitting nerves, which makes for a very uncomfortable feeling. After her tattoo was done I looked at the typography, and the lettering looked really good. I was very impressed with the tattoo artists' art.

" I choose to go to Oak City because the guy I normally go to at Blue Flame was too busy, and referred me to go to Marco at Oak City. I would definitely recommend Blue Flame thought." sophomore NC State, Nicole Weaver said, when asked why she choose Oak City.

Socially Accepted Tattoos
Should tattoos and body piercings be acceptable in the work field? There has been many heated arguments discussing this matter. Many companies now are letting all types of body art be visible to an extent during hours of operation. Including the Army and Navy, both have relaxed on their tattoo policies.
I personally feel that tattoos are a symbol of representation of ones self. It is a work of art, thought out, and a lot of effort into the tattoo. I also feel that our generation has by far been the most brave, in a sense where a lot of people do whatever it is they want. A lot of people are becoming rebels and doing adventurous things that wasn't socially accepted in previous generations. I love seeing people with tattoos and piercings all over their bodies, and clothes that are flamboyant. It makes a person very unique and attention grabbing.
I did my research on socially acceptable tattoos, and I have narrowed it down to a list of ten.
Ten. Cover-Up Tattoos,
Realizing a decision made at a young age wasn't the smartest, and getting another tattoo to 'cover-up' the tattoo.
Nine. Prison Tattoos.
Prison tattoos may not be socially accepted, quite a few people have 'tear drop' tattoos by their eye(s), certain gang symbols or any message to intimidate can serve as a functional purpose.
Eight. Heritage Tattoos.
More popular heritage tattoos include, shamrocks, yin and yang, some go to the extreme having Italian pizza, leprechauns or drug relation to a country.
Seven. Religious Tattoos.
Even though in most religions tattoos are forbidden and frown upon, a lot of people get symbols to represent their belief, such as crosses, Ohm symbol, and Buddha.
Six. Original Tattoo.
Something you created yourself, either drawing something up, or coming up with an idea for the tattoo artist to draw up themselves.
Five. Personal-Mantra Tattoos.
This can be left to your best judgment in which you decide if the tattoo is worth having. This type of tattoo is a self representation tattoo.
Four Military Tattoo
Everyone seems to have someone in their family who served in a War, or was in the military and loves to show off their tattoo.
Three Memorial Tattoos
A lot of people get tattoos in honor of a lost loved one, and some even get them of past pets.
Two. Passion/Profession Tattoos
Unless you are an professional athlete, a football signifying sports does not qualify. Although if you are a lawyer and you have weighted scales to representing such job is deemed acceptable.
And finally number One, Offspring Tattoos
Getting your offspring's portrait or name tatted on your body is a accepted way of having them with you at all times,
Again all of these are in your best judgement of being socially acceptable. I did some research and this is what I came up with. I agree with the categories, not so much the order of importance, I hope this helped open some perspective to the closed minded persons.

Judge a cat by its fur
When I first came to Raleigh in 2009, I did not know of any tattoo parlor that was local. I wanted to get a few piercings and I had no clue of where to go. I didn't have many friends who lived in Raleigh, so I had to do some searching. Eventually, someone informed me of Black Cat. A girl in one of my classes had just got a piercing, and told me that she actually knew him and went to him before.
I assumed he was a legit professional, and that I was safe. So one sunny afternoon on a spur of the moment, I decided to get a ear piercing. I went with a few friends who wanted to see it get done, so we all hopped in my car and drove five mins down the road. As we pulled into the shopping complex that Black Cat was located, all I could think of is 'Oh my gosh, why am I here again?' I wanted to turn right back around and leave, but I was already here so I just went with it.
I walked in, and my soul literally fell from my body. I felt as if every good part inside me was screaming for me to turn around and consider what I was about to do. I didn't want my friends to see that I thought my soul was being taken from my body, so I just smiled and walked in first.
I greeted myself, told Black Cat what I wanted, sat down, got my ear piercing. I told Cat that I thought he resembled Tupac. He apparently took that as me hitting on him, and as he was about to make a second hole in my ear with the very long needle, and started to kiss my neck. My mind was screaming at the highest level, but no noise was coming from my mouth. I didn't want him to stab me with the needle, so when he put the actual piercing in my ear, I sat straight up and gave him a piece of my mind. I told him I was only 19 and that was not fly with me, and that my boyfriend would not find this amusing. I got up, paid the man, and I have never returned again.
"I thought the guy was very outgoing, which seemed promising, but when I found out that he tried to get with my friend as she was getting a piercing, everything changed. I would never tell anyone to go there." Danica, a friend who went with me to watch me get a piercing, said.
